Our History
From Coalition to Collaborative:
Over a Decade of National Workforce Leadership
The Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC) was established in 2012 as the Coalition of State Bioscience Institutes (CSBI) when 42 industry associations and institutes came together with the common goal of delivering industry-led life science education and workforce development programs through a nationally coordinated effort. CSBI, and now LSWC, is most noted for its acclaimed biennial National Life Sciences Workforce Trends Report, produced in partnership with TEConomy Partners and supported by the National Science Foundation-funded InnovATEBIO National Biotech Education Center. Propelled by the growing prominence of workforce issues for the industry, LSWC filed for non-profit status with plans for formal launch in 2025; it achieved its 501(c)(3) status in June 2025.

Key LSWC focus areas include:
-
Researching & monitoring the industry’s evolving workforce demand
-
Scaling best practices that address the industry’s full talent pipeline
-
Career pathway programs that develop a passion and aptitude for science throughout students’ educational experience

LSWC provides national leadership by:
-
Convening national discussions on current workforce issues for the life sciences industry
-
Facilitating regional & national partnerships to develop and scale life sciences workforce solutions
-
Helping to inform workforce policies that impact the industry
With LSWC, we continue to expand workforce development and industry collaboration on a national level.
