Several members of the Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC) Board were in Washington, D.C. on March 25 to participate in the Biotech Across America State Symposium, hosted by the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology.
The Symposium convened more than 100 state and local officials, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators working to advance biotechnology ecosystems across the country. Building on the Commission’s national roadshow, the event created a unique forum to share best practices, identify common challenges, and explore scalable strategies to strengthen regional biotech hubs.
LSWC’s presence at the Symposium underscores our commitment to ensuring that workforce development remains central to the national biotechnology strategy. The Commission’s Action Plan and ongoing efforts clearly recognize that talent pipelines, bioliteracy, and workforce readiness are critical to U.S. competitiveness in the bioeconomy.

A key outcome of the Symposium is the development of a State Resource Guide highlighting successful models in commercialization, talent development, and education—areas where LSWC Collaborators are actively leading and innovating across the country.
Following the Symposium, many LSWC Board members also participated in a Capitol Hill Day, where they met with federal policymakers to reinforce the importance of workforce development and to elevate the role of LSWC as a key partner in advancing national biotechnology priorities.
As the Commission continues its work through 2026, LSWC looks forward to building on this momentum—elevating workforce as a national priority and connecting state and regional leaders to scale impact.
