This week, a bipartisan group of U.S. Representatives announced the formation of the BIOTech Congressional Caucus, a focused, committed, and enduring coalition of lawmakers who recognize both the urgency and opportunity to advance America’s biotechnology leadership.
Led by Reps. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Jake LaTurner (R-KS), Greg Landsman (D-OH), and Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), the caucus will serve as a central hub for congressional engagement on biotechnology innovation, policy, investment, and talent.
For those of us working at the intersection of science, workforce, and economic development, this is a meaningful step forward. Biotechnology is not just a strategic industry—it’s a workforce multiplier that spans manufacturing, R&D, agriculture, national defense, and healthcare.
The launch of the BIOTech Caucus signals growing recognition in Washington that strengthening biotechnology also means investing in the talent pipelines that fuel it. As the life sciences sector continues to grow, there is a clear need for aligned policy solutions to support technical training, credentialing, STEM education, and regional innovation hubs.
At the Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC), we are excited by the potential of this caucus to elevate these conversations and drive cross-sector collaboration. We look forward to working with the caucus and its partners to spotlight effective models, scale what works, and secure a thriving biotech workforce nationwide.
